Job Description:
DuPont Nutrition & Health is seeking candidates for a Microbial Ecologist position to conduct research related to diverse microbial ecosystems including mammalian health and plant rhizosphere communities. The candidate will provide leadership to a cross-functional, multi-locational, dynamic, and multidisciplinary team.
This individual will develop and execute research strategies to identify key contributors of microbial communities for improving human health and agricultural productivity. A thorough understanding of methodologies to assess the microbial communities in various environments is critical for success in this role. It is expected that the incumbent will be a strategic thinker and possess the experience and ability to demonstrate leadership and, management skills to engage a team of strong scientists in our quest for the identification, research and development of novel bio-based products to enhance human health, food safety, food preservation, food production, and sustainability.
This position may be based at the DuPont Nutrition & Health site in Madison, Wisconsin or DuPont Pioneer headquarters in Johnston, Iowa.
This position operates in an office/laboratory environment and reports to the Genomics and Ecology of Microbes Team Lead in the Health and Protection Division
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
•Work in conjunction with Senior Research Leader to establish research strategy and project goals aligned with business goals.
•Develop and execute research plan to identify beneficial microbes for improving human health and crop productivity.
•Lead microbial ecology research efforts by defining strategy, developing and implementing assays, analyzing and interpreting data and reporting results to the larger team.
•Monitor research progress and communicate with key stakeholders on progress of product development opportunities and make recommendations.
•Remain current in microbial ecology research area and new technology by reading literatures, participating in professional meetings, and networking with other external or internal scientists.
•Consult with legal team to protect intellectual property resulting from research discoveries.
•Organize and supervise the work of supporting staff members.
•Recruit supporting staff member and supervises and evaluates staff member’s performance.
•Implement and monitor safe working practices.
•Contribute to appropriate cross-functional research project initiatives as needed.

Qualified Candidates Meet The Following Requirements
•A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific area such as microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, etc., with 2 years relevant experience in their respective field
•Extensive experience in the research and development of bio-based solutions, including exploration and development of novel microbiological solutions to enhance food nutrition, food safety and crop productivity.
•Experience in the area of plant rhizosphere research preferred.
•Working knowledge of statistics and application to experimental design.
•Strength in data analysis, interpretation and driving conclusions.
•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based, cross-functional environment.
•Independent, self-motivated, and creative scientist with successful track record of delivering results is required.
•Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to set strategic direction for a team of strong scientists
•Experience in project management; planning, tracking and reporting
•Possess excellent oral and written communication skills for presentation of scientific concepts and results to internal and external customers and stakeholders
