Job Description:
Verily Life Sciences is focused on shifting health care from a reactive, undifferentiated approach to a proactive, targeted approach by transforming the detection, prevention, management and even our basic understanding of disease.
Verily is recruiting research scientists with experience in microbiology, microbial genomics, and host-microbiome interactions to support the development of novel disease diagnostic technologies and biomarker discovery projects such as the Baseline study. You will develop creative new experimental methods to deeply profile the human microbiome, and work to dissect host-microbiome interactions related to health and disease.
Responsibilities
Develop novel protocols for isolating microbial cells and metabolites from clinical samples.
Establish methods to generate and analyze complex genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic data.
Build platforms for high throughput microbiome isolation, testing, screening, and cultivation.
Evaluate and recommend new emerging technologies in relevant fields.
Create scientifically rigorous visualizations, communications, and presentations of results. Contribute to the generation of standard protocols and intellectual property.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD degree in microbiology, cell biology, genetics, genome sciences, molecular biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Experience in designing and executing experiments involving metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, and/or metabolomic profiling
Experience with microbiome data analysis, elucidating host-microbiome interactions, and/or functional prediction of microbial systems using pathway analysis
Preferred Qualifications
5 years of post-graduate experience
Fluency in standard bioinformatics tools, Python, Perl, and R
Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to analyze high-dimensional biological datasets
Excellent creativity, decision making, and troubleshooting skills
Strong written and oral communication skills, as demonstrated through publications and presentations
Area
The Verily Life Sciences team is focused on helping to move healthcare from reactive to proactive. Combining expertise from the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, electrical engineering, computer science, we’re developing new technology tools for physicians that can integrate easily into daily life and help transform the detection, prevention, and management of disease. Current projects in development include a smart contact lens with miniaturized glucose sensor ; a nanodiagnostics platform to help with early detection of disease ; and Liftware utensils for people with tremor.
