7 days left Shortlist Add to shortlist ApplyThe Cancer Informatics Core Facility at the Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a talented and motivated Staff Scientist to serve as the Core Facility Manager.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Promotion of a collaborative research environment that involves project design and consultation with Core users. 2) Direct supervision of all core facility scientific staff. 3) Administrative functions of the core including budgeting, addressing staffing needs, core billing activities and vendor relationships. 4) Development of new applications and technologies for the core to assist Investigators in the interpretation of data.
Experience in bioinformatics support using public and commercial software packages is required. Evidence of collaboration with biologists and biostatisticians to develop and apply novel bioinformatics approaches using tools such as: C, C++, PERL, HTML, JAVA, XML, Python, Bioconducter, MATLAB is strongly desired as is familiarity with SQL database tools. Experience in linux/high performance computing cluster environment would be a plus. Ability to collaborate independently on projects and engage investigators, scientific staff and biostatisticians for full project integration. Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative research relationships with others and to contribute to ongoing research projects requiring bioinformatics support and communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Experience in an academic environment preferred, however industrial experience is acceptable. Must be a technical expert in the use of bioinformatics tools and resources . Must have a track record that demonstrates technical contributions to grant proposals and manuscript preparation. Must have the ability to develop and implement new methodology or techniques documented by reference in publications or grant proposals. Must demonstrate past experience in participation in department and or institution wide committees. Must be an active professional member in National or international bioinformatics organizations. Past experience in a customer oriented service laboratory/core facility is required. Must have experience in supervising staff, preparing and maintaining budgets and administrative functions associated with the management of a shared resource or core facility.
Education: MS required (PhD preferred) in the specific area of core technology with core specific advanced training and work experience. Requires at least 15 years of science related experience with at least 7 years in core facility specific applications and at 3 years of supervisory experience required
