bluebird bio is developing potentially transformative, one-time gene therapies for severe genetic and orphan diseases. At the heart of bluebird bio’s product creation efforts is its broadly applicable gene therapy platform for the development of new treatments for diseases with few or no clinical options. bluebird bio has two clinical stage product candidates in development, one for childhood cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CCALD) and one for beta-thalassemia major/sickle cell disease, and an early stage oncology program in partnership with Celgene Corporation.

Join bluebird bio’s enthusiastic and collaborative team by contributing to the overall success of our novel gene therapy approach. We seek an industry-experienced Molecular biologist to conduct research activities related to high throughput sequencing of exomes, transcriptomes, set up methods for single cell sequencing and contribute to integration site analyzes. The successful candidate will also contribute to strategic goals and tactical objectives related to cell and gene therapy programs.

About the role:
Operation and routine maintenance of next generation sequencer and peripheral instruments. Construction of NGS libraries from RNA and DNA DNA and RNA extraction from cultured cells and other tissue samples. Routine molecular biology techniques, qPCR, bioanalyzer qualification, and NGS library preparation of DNA products. Design and optimize molecular biology protocols to develop standardized laboratory methods. Troubleshoot complex experiments when needed Responsible for the efficient running, cleanliness and tidiness of the laboratory
About you:
BS/MS in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field. 2+ years prior lab experience required Familiarity with genetics databases and software packages (e.g. Alamut, Mutation Surveyor, OMIM, dbSNP, dbGaP, Ensembl) and basic bioinformatics tools for routine documentation of genetic variation Experience with single cell genetic analysis a plus Exquisite attention to detail in experiment documentation, record keeping, and quality control High degree of computer literacy Participates in on-going quality control/assurance programs CLIA experience or worked in a regulated lab environment preferred Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence and the incorporation of multiple points of view Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem solving ability Excellent organizational skills, sufficient to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence and the incorporation of multiple points of view Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem solving ability Excellent organizational skills, sufficient to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across multiple functions.
