Job Description:
The Molecular Fellow will assist in research and development related to the application of routine, advanced and/or novel molecular technologies in Zoo and Aquarium and field based conservation projects. Responsibilities: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Develop and validate novel molecular technologies for laboratory and field based applications • Apply bioinformatics to the analysis of large, complicated datasets for pathogen and species identification • Contribute to preparation and submission of peer-reviewed publications • Train and mentor research fellows, students, volunteers (as needed and as time allows) Qualifications: • PhD in genetics, molecular bioinformatics, or molecular biology • Demonstrated proficiency in conventional and quantitative PCR and RT-PCR assay development including primer and probe design, cloning, DNA sequencing and analysis, bioinformatics, and large data-set management • Demonstrated proficiency using high-throughput DNA sequencing (e.g. Illumina, 454, Oxford Nanopore’s MinION platforms) •Programming proficiency (e.g. Python, R)
