MRC Early Career Research Fellow

Job Description:

Department of Epidemiology and Public Health
MRC Early Career Research Fellow
Salary Range: £33,410 to £42,380 per annum

The MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for leading pioneering and multidisciplinary research.

The Early Career Research Fellowship programme is a new initiative designed to attract into the Centre exceptional candidates with 0-4 years of postdoctoral experience in the discipline of the proposed fellowship.

The programme will provide a unique opportunity for early-career scientists working in the broad area of environment and health to develop their own competitive, independent research programmes in a supportive, multi- disciplinary environment. The fellowship programme is designed as a platform to apply for subsequent intermediate fellowship applications and similar career progressing schemes.

We intend to recruit, train and develop the next generation of future research and policy leaders from these key and related disciplines:
•Environmental Epidemiology
•Molecular Epidemiology
•Exposure Sciences
•Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, and Bioinformatics
•Small Area Health Statistics, Spatial Epidemiology, and GIS
•Analytical Sciences (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, adductomics)
•Mechanistic Toxicology
•Physical, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences

There are no teaching and administrative obligations, and the appointee will be provided with reasonable funds to cover research costs.

Proposals will be judged on the basis of scientific merit, track record of the applicant and potential for development of an independent research programme in the broad area of environment and health. A rigorous and thorough selection procedure akin to the MRC Strategic Fellowship schemes will be adopted.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in one of the key areas listed above.

This post is full time for a fixed term of 36 months (from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2018).
