NMR Experimental Officer University of Birmingham - School of Chemistry, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences Location: Birmingham Salary: £28,695 to £39,685 A year Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Permanent Placed on: 9th March 2015 Closes: 30th March 2015 Job Ref: 52799We seek to recruit a full-time Experimental Officer to run the NMR facility within the School of Chemistry’s Centre for Chemical and Biochemical Analysis at the University of Birmingham.
The Centre offers a comprehensive analytical and spectroscopic service to scientists within the University as well as to external commercial users, with NMR spectroscopy being a central component.
The facility has five NMR spectrometers ranging from 300 to 500 MHz and currently offers both routine and advanced NMR experiments, with autosampling alongside multinuclear and variable temperature capabilities, as well as off-line processing facilities. The successful applicant will be expected to provide and apply their expertise in NMR spectroscopy to support and enhance the research activity of the School of Chemistry, of which >95% was found to be internationally excellent or leading in REF2014. This will include working with colleagues to ensure that appropriate instrumentation and techniques are available for cutting-edge chemistry research and liaising when appropriate with other providers of NMR spectroscopy across campus.
Applicants should hold a PhD in chemistry or a related area, with hands-on experience operating an NMR spectrometer. They need to have excellent communication skills, as well as demonstrable expertise in small molecule NMR spectroscopy, spectral processing and interpretation.
