Job Description:
We are seeking a bioinformatics scientist to join the Novartis Oncology Bioinformatics Team to help us develop cutting edge cancer therapies and get them to patients who will benefit. Oncology Bioinformatics provides computational biology expertise to the department, with a focus on applications of high-throughput genomic and biomarker data to target identification, drug discovery, and clinical development. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, and an effective collaborator. Their responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with clinical teams to analyze and interpret biomarker data from clinical trials (e.g. next-gen sequencing, IHC, proteomics).

• Contributing to translational research efforts by working with teams to digest clinical study findings, and by supporting translational genomics, model characterization, and data mining efforts.

• Working with drug discovery teams to apply genomic profiling to target discovery, drug mechanism elucidation, and patient stratification efforts.

• Implementing and developing state-of-the-art computational methods and data mining strategies to address key challenges in oncology drug discovery (e.g. drug resistance, difficult-to-drug targets, harnessing anti-tumor immunity).

• Formulating testable hypotheses, and collaborating in the design of rigorous experiments

Requirements:

• A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science or related field

• Demonstrated expertise in statistics and statistical learning, with practical experience applying AI methodologies a plus

• Fluency in one or more programming languages with bioinformatics applications (e.g. Python, R, Perl)

• Excellent communication skills and a track record of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams

• Experience with current analysis methods for next-generation sequencing data preferred

• Knowledge of cancer genomics, immunology, clinical and translational science preferred
