The Oncology Bioinformatics Team work as part of our oncology drug project teams, from new target discovery to early clinical trials. The global group, currently 12 full time positions plus 2 post-doctoral roles, balance activities between three areas of focus: disease characterization and target discovery; drug project support; and clinical biomarker translation.

This is an exciting time for bioinformatics in AZ, having committed to compiling health records and genome sequences from two million people including our own clinical trials. We seek talented individuals to find patterns in these alongside public data and drive our oncology portfolio targeting DNA repair, oncogenes and immune response.

Roles and responsibilities:

Scientist / Senior Scientist *
Lead efforts to harness value from external data and science. * Work as part of cross-disciplinary oncology drug project teams (bioscience and translational) to influence cutting edge science through application of bioinformatics/genomics. * Deliver actionable biological insight advancing our understanding of cancer molecular, phenotypic and immune segmentation, and drug resistance. * Find new ways of analyzing, modelling and visualizing multi-omic and phenotypic data. * Train and build tools for our bench science community to effectively access key data. * Publish high impact papers in peer reviewed journals.
Associate Principal Scientist (in addition to the above): *
Strategic lead of bioinformatics for oncology disease characterization and target discovery
- Scientific and project director for a sub-team of 3+ PhD bioinformatics scientists.
- Create and maintain an innovative and industry leading bioinformatics capability.
- Manage bioinformatics support to the pre-LOID portfolio.
- Coordinate with the global Oncology Bioinformatics lead to synergize strategic direction.
- Champion your vision to senior stakeholders to influence investment. * Work closely with global oncology bioscience and translational leaders. * Champion new drug target opportunities to the AZ portfolio. * Identify, establish and lead collaborative relationships with expert groups in academia and across industry.
