Job Description:

Two Ph.D. positions will become available fall 2015 in the Shen group at Texas A&M University. Our interdisciplinary research is motivated by real-world challenges from biological problems at multiple scales ranging from molecules and systems to big data. We develop and apply computational methods to analyze, predict, and re-engineer biomolecular interactions and biological systems. These methods often involve but are not limited to biomolecular modeling and design, systems analysis and control, optimization, machine learning, probability and statistics, signal processing and beyond.

“Our graduate programs are consistently ranked among the top 20 in the United States. Our high quality research program, low tuition rates, and low cost of living make graduate studies in our programs one of the best values in the world.” More on “Why Texas A&M” can also be found at http://www.tamu.edu/about/recognitions.html.

College Station is conveniently located in the middle of a triangle formed by 3 of the 10 largest cities in the United States: Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Meanwhile, the small city herself has a lot to offer in life quality and cultural diversity.

Strongly motivated candidates with B.S. or M.S. degrees and solid background in applied mathematics, computer science, computational biology, computational biophysics / biochemistry, engineering, operation research or related fields are invited to apply.

The following qualifications would be highly regarded although not required:

Familiarity with topics such as optimization, machine learning, probabilistic graphical models, systems and control, and statistics.

Linux programming experience in one or more following languages: C/C++, shell scripting, Perl, Python, SQL, XML, PHP, and Java.
