MECHANISMS OF NEUROPROTECTION
Lead Personnel: D. Atochin, Harvard University
Studies of the molecular mechanisms of neuroprotection/Neuroprotection laboratory. Aim of this project is experimental studies of protective mechanisms of novel inhibitors mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) in animal models of ischemia and reperfusion. We believe that results of our experiments will help create pharmaceutical compounds for clinical studies. General aim of the project is experimental studies of mechanisms of protective effects of MAPK inhibitors on the animal models of cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. We will investigate effects of a new inhibitors of JNK and MKK7 on inflammation in area of stroke injury. We will analyze effects of the inhibitors of JNK and MKK7 on cerebral blood flow during cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. We will measure neurological deficit and stroke outcome after inhibition of JNK and MKK7 and middle cerebral artery occlusion. Our results will help to discover molecular mechanisms of protection against stroke injury by inhibition of JNK pathway.
