Job Description:
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks ambitious, high caliber candidates for a Post Bachelors/Masters Research Associate internship within the Computational Biology Group. The position involves the development of methods, algorithms and computer code for data analysis, visualization, and simulations specific for understanding complex microbial communities and multi’omics data. The research and development tasks would involve implementing methods to analyze data, the application of these methods on high performance computers, the generation of figures and text, and the interpretation of the data into the larger picture of microbial interactions, multi’omics, and spatially resolved biological information. The Computational Biology group is an integral component of Biological Sciences research and maintains close ties with other Biological Sciences research groups - Exposure Science, Integrative Omics, and Microbiology - as well groups in the areas of applied mathematics, computer science and statistics. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required. Preferred Qualifications A degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Cognitive Science, Engineering or related field is preferred. The position requires knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as Python, C++, R or Matlab, familiarity with microbiology data analysis, or knowledge of machine learning and visualization methods. A desire to work with computers and diverse groups of people would be helpful, as would a desire to work with challenging problems and writing tasks. This job will require the candidate to overcome many technical challenges, as well as apply interpretation of data to addressing scientific questions.
