Job Description:
The laboratory of Professor Gabor Marth (http://marthlab.org) at the University of Utah Department of Human Genetics is seeking an experienced postdoctoral computational biologist to lead the development and application of computational algorithms for the detection of circulating cell-free tumor DNA. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative community of computational, clinical and experimental scientists. The Eccles Institute of Human Genetics on the University of Utah Medical School campus in Salt Lake City, Utah lies at the interface between basic and clinical sciences, creating ample opportunities for collaborations with clinical researchers and easy access to high-valued clinical datasets. Responsibilities:

The candidate will join the USTAR Center for Genetic Discovery (http://ucgd.genetics.utah.edu) in the Department of Human Genetics, and will work in collaboration with investigators in the Departments of Pathology and Pediatrics to develop, benchmark, and implement the circulating tumor DNA test. The candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in collaboration with other groups at the University of Utah and other institutions; interact with software engineers within the group; publish their work in peer-reviewed journals; and present their work in national and international meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have obtained her/his PhD in computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, or genetics. Proficiency with computer programming (preferably in the C++ language), experience with algorithm development, and familiarity with the UNIX operating system is preferred. Background in genetics and experience working with modern DNA sequencing datasets is a big plus. Applicants should have a passion for solving complex problems and value collaboration and teamwork while also being able to work individually.

A high degree of organization and professionalism is required.
