Scientist
(salary dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with public sector wage scale TVoeD up to grade E 14).
The contract is initially limited to three years, but can be extended to a permanent position.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Development and optimization of bioinformatics algorithms and/or statistical procedure in computational genomics or proteomics. In computational genomics, we primarily focus on application in metagenomics and the detection of infection chains; in proteomics on applications in metaproteomics, quantitative proteomics, and proteogenomics.
• Data analysis for next generation sequencing data or mass spectrometry data in close collaboration with experimental research groups
• Development of bioinformatics software and pipelines and support in the translation of research projects to routine analyses pipelines in our core facility
• Training, advising, and supporting junior group members
• Publication of results and presentation at scientific meetings
Profile
• University Degree (on at least a master’s level, a PhD is of strong advantage) in a field related to the tasks (e.g. (bio-) informatics, mathematics, statistics, physics, quantitative biology)
• Practical experience in the development of algorithms or statistical procedures for the analysis of experimental high-throughput data
• Knowledge in the analysis of high-throughput data, in particular, next generation sequencing or mass spectrometry
• Good programming skills and comfort level with software development methodology
• Thorough understanding of molecular biology (genomics/proteomics)
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience in at least one of the following fields is of advantage:
o Programming and software development
o Biostatistics, computational statistics, machine learning, graphical models, or optimization
o Metaomics or microbial diagnostics
o Population genomics, phylogenomics, and infection chains
o Microbiology and infection biology
• Required language skills (CEFR-level): advanced knowledge of English (at least C1), basic knowledge of German (A 2) is of advantage
