The Center for Computational Science (CCS) is an interdisciplinary research Center with expertise across a wide range of domains. We are currently looking for outstanding postdoctoral candidates for two national research projects, the Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Library of Integrated Network-based Cellular Signatures (LINCS) program and the Illuminating the Druggable Genome Project (IDG) project. We are looking for a postdoctoral associate with expertise in the general areas of cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational systems biology, knowledge modeling and data science to develop novel solutions for large-scale data integration and modeling of diverse heterogeneous data.
Primary duties of the postdoctoral associate includes the integration, modeling, analysis, visualization of diverse heterogeneous datasets; development of computational models and hypothesis of drugs mechanism of action; development of novel computational methodologies; development and implementation of data standards; knowledge modeling / ontology engineering in the areas of biology and chemistry; development of key features, UI elements, documentation, testing, and application of novel software tools. A PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, cheminformatics, chemistry, computational biology, or a related field is required. Also required is hands-on experience with a variety of bioinformatics and cheminformatics resources and tools, including, but not limited to databases such as PubChem ChEMBL, GEO, TCGA, ENCODE, CMap, biological pathway systems (KEGG, Reactome, PID, etc), and various methodologies and software tools including molecular dynamics, docking, pharmacophore, QSAR, chemical fingerprints, statistical data analysis, gene set enrichment analysis, network modeling. Knowledge of biomedical ontologies and experience in knowledge modeling, description logic, and general ontology engineering principles, Protégé software, and ontology languages (such as OWL) is also preferred. Multidisciplinary experience is preferred. The position requires the ability and desire to work in a multi-disciplinary team in close collaboration of bioinformatics, cheminformatics, software engineering, computer science, ontology engineering, scientific content development, and to adapt to a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary work environment.
