About the Job

Plant and Microbial Biology Postdoctoral Associate

Essential Functions:

  • 70% Independent research
  • The researcher will perform research in the areas microbial ecology and physiology in extreme environments, applying metagenomic and metatranscritpomic sequencing strategies to examine community assembly and function.
  • 20% Implement bioinfromatics pipelines for the lab
  • The researcher will develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines for analyzing next generation sequencing data for the lab.
  • 10% Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in bioinformatic tools
  • The researcher will assist and mentor students from the lab who are using bioinformatics tools for their research projects.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

PhD in computational biology, computer science, or biology

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive experience in bioinformatics including analyses and interpretation of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic sequence data; large-scale data analysis; ability to lead projects, and work as part of an interdisciplinary team; excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills; computational skills including programming with Linux, python, perl. Experience with single-cell genomics and recovery of low abundance microbial populations from large-scale data.
