Job Description:
The successful applicant will work with a team of researchers and scientists in projects to analyze genomics and functional genomics data. One aspect of the project will be to identify mutations in genomes from next generation sequencing data. This will be using information from human genome and transcript sequence information to identify mutations involved in cancer. This part of the project is supported by external grants with the objective of using the UA high performance computing facilities to develop pipelines to automate the process of mutation analysis. In addition, genome and transcript sequence from diverse rice genotypes will be analyzed to identify mutations and natural variation that distinguish the lines, towards identifying candidate genes responsible for traits that will be supported by ongoing molecular genetics analysis. The available information on candidate genes and associated pathways, plant genotypes and functional genomics data will be used to develop a network based approach to predict genes with functional association to plant phenotypes. The incumbent will also be responsible for processing and presenting data at professional meetings, participate in development of grant proposals, and writing and publishing results in appropriate journals in collaboration with other scientists on the project.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in the Plant Sciences or Bioinformatics, with experience in next generation sequencing analysis for RNA-Sequencing and genome sequencing, familiarity with functional genomics technologies and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experiences that would be helpful: Transcriptome analysis and ability to develop the field of network biology as a system to understand gene functions and dissect complex biological pathways.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong written and oral communication skills
