Job Description:

University of Colorado - School of Medicine Post-Doctoral Fellow Area of primary responsibility (80%): This position reports directly to Katja Kiseljak-Vassiliades, DO and Margaret E. Wierman, MD. The primary responsibility will be to lead projects in the area of tumor biology with specific focus on adrenal cancer tumorigenesis. Activities related to this responsibility include but are not limited to:
  • Expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques related to functional analysis of novel genes involved in adrenal tumorigenesis
  • Study of transgenic models and nude mouse models where candidate genes are overexpressed or silenced, and nude mouse models with patient derived xenograft tumors
  • Supervision of members of the laboratory including PRAs, students and fellows
  • Performing data analysis including bioinformatics and biostatistics
  • The individual is expected to enhance their general knowledge base and skills related to related to endocrine tumorigenesis research
  • Meet with Drs. Kiseljak-Vassiliades and Wierman, on a regular basis, to provide updates on progress, discuss problems encountered and devise solutions, and summarize and interpret data
  • Prepare data for presentation at regional and national meetings
  • Publish data in original manuscripts, reviews etc
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, for successful and timely completion of this research project.
The applicant will work closely with collaborators across the institution in genomics, bioinformatics, SOPharmacy high throughput core etc. Other responsibilities and areas of focus (20%). As this post-doctoral training is considered a career-development period, it is expected that a portion of time be dedicated to: 1. Enhancing general knowledge in related fields by attending intramural seminars, research conferences, and grand rounds 2. Attending weekly Wierman lab meetings 3. Presenting research in progress at lab meetings Establishing independent skill sets in scientific research to make them competitive for future funding. The objective is to prepare and submit, prior to the end of the training period (3 yrs), a mentored training grant application. This will be achieved by: A. Using resources (reading the scientific literature, attending seminars) to enhance their understanding of the field and communication and grant-writing skills. B. Discussing potential ideas with Drs. Kiseljak-Vassiliades and Wierman C. Presenting ideas for future studies at lab meetings D. Participate in discussions during lab meetings where other members of the group present grant submissions for review Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD/MD
  • Expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in Bioinformatics
  • Work with transgenic and/or nude mouse models
  • Excellent communication skills using the English language
  • The ability to work independently and work collaboratively with other in the lab
