Job Description:
Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for the designs and conducts research studies related to funded projects. Participates in grant writing assignments and produces scientific publications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.

-Assures quality customer service to all customers.

-Writes and submits scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals.

-Submits extramural grant applications to fund research activities or participates in development of such, when appropriate. Maintains high level of technical expertise.

-Collaborates with internal and external researchers on projects that specifically enhance knowledge related to current research projects. Communicates study results in public setting, such as conferences and publications. -Designs and performs experiments and analyzes data using standard and specialized techniques in virology, molecular biology and immunology.

-Oversees and performs database management and performs basic to advanced statistical analysis.

-Designs experiments, conducts original research, performs data analysis and plays a significant role in manuscript development and submission.

-Provides work coordination to technicians and guidance to graduate students, as needed.

-Manages clinical and research information in a confidential manner consistent with HIPPA and institutional review board.

-Remains abreast of changes and developments in the field of research. Establishes and maintains a network of professional relationships.

-Monitors department and/or program budget.

-Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.

Knowledge/ Education:

-MD, PhD or Dr PH required.

-High-level knowledge of and extensive experience in standard research protocols in molecular biology, virology and cellular immunology required.

-Knowledge of standard and specialized laboratory procedures and equipment required.

-Advanced theoretical understanding of work being performed required.

Experience:

Two years experience performing similar duties and responsibilities preferred.

Skills/ Abilities:

-Ability to operate and maintain routine and complex laboratory equipment.

-Must possess exceptional oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

-Strong detail orientation, analytical ability and organization skills.

-Able to understand, follow, and give precise written and verbal directions and procedures, and perform all activities safely and accurately.

-Ability to perform laboratory procedures in detail, safely and accurately.

-Proficient computer skills: spreadsheet, statistical and word processing software.

-Able to perform work duties with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality when working with research study participants.

-Ability to communicate and interface effectively and harmoniously with employees and the public.

-Able and willing to work with hazardous material, which may include biohazards, radioisotopes, and chemicals, in compliance with health and safety guidelines and regulations.
