Job Description:
PURPOSE: To assist the Bioinformatics Team in the Research Technology Department within the Obesity Research Unit at the Novo Nordisk Research Center (NNRC) with bioinformatics and system biology evaluation of Obesity Targets. This role will further the development of our bioinformatics and system biology toolbox for understanding the complex biology of obesity. This effort will support target discovery and early stage projects to increase our understanding of the genes and pathways involved in pathogenesis of Obesity. This position will be responsible for providing peer leadership and technical support for creating bioinformatics databases and ensuring data integrity. RELATIONSHIPS: The position will report to the Head of the Research Technology department within the Obesity Research Unit and will be embedded in the Bioinformatics team. This position will work in close collaboration with the Obesity Research team members and other research groups at NNRC, and external research collaborators. This person will also interact with Denmark-based colleagues to support global research projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Develop powerful analytic methods and strategies to integrate multi-modal high throughput omics datasets with the aid of detailed phenotypical data (metabolic and anthropometric measurements). * Build interactive tools to assess novel obesity drug targets and pathways. * Perform cross-species comparisons of obesity disease gene networks. * Author high-impact manuscripts. * Draft reports & prepare presentation slides. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Approximately 5% overnight travel KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: * Education Level: PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Bioscience engineering, Computational Biology, knowledge in obesity is preferred. * Experience Level: 0-1 years of post-degree experience required. *Specific or technical job skills: * Strong computational systems biology background with demonstrated experience in integrating high-throughput omics data. * Ideal candidate is fluent in command line environment, scripting languages (R/Bioconductor, Python), and database programming. Skills in interactive web applications will be a strong plus. * Experience within the systems biology of Obesity/Diabetes/Metabolic Disease field is an advantage but not required. * Ability to work independently. * Excellent written & oral communication skills. * Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices. * Excellent skills in collecting data and accurately maintaining laboratory notebooks.
