Job Description:

The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non‐profit biomedical research institute based in Phoenix, Arizona, focused on research that can help patients with cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and other debilitating conditions. Working with a worldwide network of collaborators in the scientific and medical communities, TGen researchers study the genetic components of both common and complex diseases. Our 30 lead investigators and nearly 200 support personnel at sites in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Arizona, are dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life through precision medicine, best defined as the right therapy, for the right patient, at the right time. Job Summary The Seungchan Kim lab (Biocomputing Lab) at TGen focuses on development and application of computational methods to analyze high throughput genomic and transcriptomic data. Our research incorporates statistical and computational tools to study cancer biology, focusing on: 1) identification of biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets for cancers, 2) molecular classification of cancers, and 3) understanding and mathematical modeling of genetic regulatory networks, with the special focus on contextual genomic regulation. The post-doc is sponsored by several external grants as well as institutional fund which ensure dedicated time for the post-doc’s own research development. The main focus will be to develop and implement computational algorithms and a system to study computationally derived gene regulatory networks, in conjunction with existing public database of signaling pathways. Developed methods will be applied to cancer biomarkers, progression and target discovery, in collaboration with biomedical scientists at TGen.
The position requires a Ph.D. ideally in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science with experience in a related field of research. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills, experience with public genomic databases, and have experience with database systems like noSQL. Please submit CV, a short summary of research interest and experience, and contact information for three references through TGen’s career website (Job # IRC10198).
