QMUL Lipid Mediator Unit

2 Years Fixed Term Contract

Applications are invited for an experienced Postdoctoral Research Assistant to explore mechanisms involved in the regulation and actions of a novel group of molecules termed as specialized pro-resolving mediators. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and highly motivated individual to become part of a multidisciplinary research team aiming to utilize a multi-omic approach to gain deeper insights into the mechanisms leading to inflammatory diseases as well as mechanisms engaged by widely used therapeutics.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in processing and analysis omics data including next generation sequencing data (whole genome sequencing and RNAseq) and metabolomics, with an interest in the development of computational methods and tools for data sets and implementing them in a scientific context. The post offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative computational and statistical methods to fully exploit unique and large-scale patient orientated biological datasets.

Applicants will PhD (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computer science or equivalent, or in a biological science with demonstrated experience in computational and statistical analysis. Proficiency with at least one high-level programming language and/or appropriate scripting languages and statistical data analysis tools is also required.

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) is based within the John Vane Science Centre on the Charterhouse Square Campus of Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, within Queen Mary University of London. The WHRI has three core strategic themes: Inflammation, Cardiovascular and Endocrinology with a mix of basic scientists and clinicians benefitting from strong links with Bart’s and The London NHS Trust.

The appointment will be fixed term for 2 years at a first instance. The starting salary will be £36,040 - £40,182 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, depending on experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
