Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the integrated Research land-grant Mission of the home unit and the IANR, as an effective scholar and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy.

Research: The individual in this position will be expected to plan, conduct, and supervise research on food allergen proteomics. In particular, the research will be focused on conducting protein mass spectrometry experiments to identify, detect, quantify, and characterize food allergens. Due to the nature of this research, an ideal candidate would have some experience with both protein mass spectrometry and bioinformatics. Additional experience with food protein chemistry and immunochemistry techniques would also be valuable. The individual will be expected to conduct research both independently and as part of a team. Contribution to the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students is also anticipated. Preparation and publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals or other appropriate outlets is expected. The individual may also have the opportunity to make presentations at regional, national, or international scientific meetings. In addition, the individual may be asked to contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and progress reports related to the research projects.

Extension: There is no formal extension component to this position, however, outreach with the biotechnology and food industries and other activities with FARRP may be expected, when appropriate.

Teaching: There is no formal teaching component with this position. As mentioned above, contribution to graduate and undergraduate student supervision is anticipated. Occasional guest lectures may also be requested.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Food Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Plant Science, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with proteomics and protein mass spectrometry, including targeted proteomics method development.

• Experience with protein purification techniques.

• Familiarity with informatics tools for proteomics (for example, Mascot, Skyline, Progenesis, and instrument vendor software).
