Job Description:
The salary will be paid at Grade 6 £32,958 to 33,943 per annum, plus 2,923 per annum London Allowance.

This post will be available for 12 months in the first instance

This is a Full Time post – 100 % full time equivalent (but requests for flexible working will be considered)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine to work on a project investigating the molecular pathogenesis of pustular psoriasis. This is a disabling skin disorder that is poorly understood at the genetic level and difficult to treat in the clinic. The study, which is led by Dr Francesca Capon and Prof Catherine Smith, will seek to improve our understanding of disease pathogenesis by integrating whole-exome sequencing and RNA-seq experiments with in-vitro and ex-vivo assays. The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary team including basic scientists, data analysts and clinicians. He/she will drive the analysis of RNA-seq and exome sequence data, while also contributing to the design and execution of follow-up experiments. The successful candidate will have a PhD (or will shortly be assessed for a PhD - see note below) in a relevant discipline and will have solid expertise in next-generation sequencing data analysis. Previous experience with standard laboratory techniques would be an advantage. Applicants must hold a PhD in statistics, biological sciences, bioinformatics or genetics and be familiar with the investigation of large genetic datasets.

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have recently submitted or passed their viva and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. Should the successful candidate be awaiting the award of his or her PhD, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, point 30 (currently £32,004 per annum) with the title of Research Assistant until confirmation of the award of their PhD has been received. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6, spine point 31 (currently £32,958 per annum). The salary range for those candidates with a PhD, and those with a couple of years experience post PhD, is £ 32,958 - £33,943 per annum plus £2,923 London Weighting per annum.
