Job Description:

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation, the Center's five scientific divisions collaborate to form a unique environment for conducting basic and applied science. The Hutchinson Center, in collaboration with its clinical and research partners, the University of Washington and Seattle Children's, is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Pacific Northwest. Join us and make a difference!

The post-doctoral research fellow will work on independent and collaborative projects developing adoptive T cell immunotherapy for hematologic and solid tumor malignancies within the Program in Immunology and Clinical Research Division at FHCRC. The successful applicant will employ strategies for cloning T cell receptors and genetic modification of human T cells with TCRs specific for antigens expressed by malignancies. In vitro studies using human T cells and in vivo murine models will be used to develop and test novel T cell therapies. The research fellow will perform correlative studies to evaluate the transfer, persistence and function of antigen-specific T cells in human clinical trials of adoptive T cell immunotherapy.

The Program in Immunology is a leader in the development and clinical application of adoptive immunotherapy using genetically modified T cells and is committed to the advancement of this approach. The post-doctoral research fellow may also participate in the laboratory evaluation of ongoing clinical trials involving engineering of peripheral blood stem cell grafts for improved allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation outcomes, and in the development of future immunotherapy strategies.

The post-doctoral research fellow will work on independent and collaborative projects within the Program in Immunology at FHCRC as part of our Clinical Research Division studying the function of human T cells. The position will involve molecular work with PCR, cloning, vector design and Westerns, as well as, flow cytometry, ELISPOT, Chromium Release Assays, cloning, vector design and cell culture. This is a full-time position with a salary based on the NIH scale and excellent benefits.

Applicants will have a MD and/or a PhD in a biological science. The ideal candidate will have a strong research background with robust skills in molecular biology and cellular immunology, including experience in designing cloning strategies, flow cytometry and cell signaling based assays. Experience in analysis of T Cell Receptor (TCR) signaling pathways and in lentiviral modification of T cells will be an advantage. To be successful in this position, the post-doctoral research fellow must be highly motivated and driven to establish a career as a future independent investigator.
