Job Description:
We are looking for an enthusiastic bioinformatician to undertake research into cassava and wheat genetic diversity, exploring genotyping-by-sequencing data (DArTseq) for 4K accessions from the CIAT global cassava collection, 150K wheat accessions from the CIMMYT seed bank and whole genome sequence data for selected cassava accessions. Activities include data management, quality control, variant calling, contig assembly, gene annotation and phylogenetic and phylogeographic analyses. Ref: T/328 - 6-month fixed term contract For the role the successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field of computer or biological sciences and bioinformatics experience analysing high-throughput sequencing data. You will be proficient in a scripting language such as Python or Perl, be familiar with crop genetics and breeding principles, and have experience analysing genotyping-by-sequencing data, running variant calling, assembly and annotation pipelines and performing population genetics, diversity and phylogenetic analyses. You will have excellent organisation and communication skills and be willing to travel internationally.
