Job Description:

We are searching for highly motivated and talented postdocs to join our team working on mechanisms governing normal and malignant hematopoiesis. We will recruit up to three postdocs with either an experimental or a bioinformatics background.

Our research/the group
Research in the Porse group is focused on elucidating mechanisms governing normal and malignant hematopoiesis with special emphasis on the behaviour of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) during adult hematopoiesis and leukemic stem cells (LSCs) in acute myeloid leukemia. To this end, we employ mouse models of human AML, mouse knock-out lines of putative HSC/LSC regulators, primary patient material and a broad range of bioinformatics tools. We have also conducted a number of shRNA-based in vivo screens for genes involved in tumor maintenance and identified a number of novel potential oncogenes and tumor suppressors which will be studied in future projects.

The Porse group is affiliated with the Finsen Laboratory (www.finsenlab.dk) at Rigshospitalet as well as BRIC (www.bric.ku.dk) and DanStem (www.danstem.ku.dk), both University of Copenhagen.

Project/the research project(s)
A number of projects under the headlines listed below are available for the successful applicants.

Characterisation of novel candidate oncogenes and tumor suppressors in AML Characterisation of putative HSC/LSC regulators In vitro approaches for the generation and/or maintenance of HSCs Bioinformatics analyses of genome-wide datasets (Chip-seq and/or gene expression experiments) in normal and malignant hematopoiesis

Candidates with both wet-lab and bioinformatics backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Start: Preferably late 2015 or after agreement
Duration: 2 years respectively 3 years

Place of employment
The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen, while place of work will be Finsen Laboratory - both located in the Biocenter, close to the centre of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 23 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory. We have weekly journal clubs, data clubs, seminars with invited speakers and a young researchers club ASAP and our own PhD programme, MoMeD. BRIC actively participates in the European alliance, EU-life consisting of 13 excellent life science research institutions http://eu-life.eu/
