Job Description:
Research Laboratory with UNC Lineberger Cancer Center seeks highly motivated, creative, and collaborative postdoctoral scholar to join a dynamic research group to use protein mass spectrometry to study the cancer proteome. The candidate will support both the Proteomics Core Facility and the lab of Dr. Ben Major, at a relative contribution of 25% and 75% respectively. Their work will be carried out under the direction of Dr. Ben Major. The candidate will work to develop computational proteomic approaches to improve protein sequencing and peptide quantitation by mass spectrometry. The candidate will also contribute to the development and use of analytical and informatics pipelines for proteomic work at UNC. It is expected that the candidate will work with Dr. Major and Lineberger faculty to publish their research findings and to seek collaborative extramural financial support for their work. Successful candidates will drive an independent research project(s), develop strength in scientific writing and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Solid coding skills and experience in algorithm development are critical. Proficiency in R statistical language, Python, and C/C++ is highly desired. Prior experience with proteomics and mass spectrometry data analysis is a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform both self-directed and guided research are crucial. Successful applicants will be highly motivated, excited and enthusiastic, work independently, think creatively and demonstrate strong work ethic. Successful applicants will work with a team of graduate students, fellows and research associates to use proteomics to study signal transduction in cancer. A track record of leading projects through to publication in peer-reviewed journals, and prior expertise in a research area that will enrich the selected postdoctoral research project(s) is preferred. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics or a related field.
