Job Description:
1. Deploying existing software for predictive phenomics in plants
2. Creating interoperable large-scale systems for broad genomic, phenotypic, and environmental data management
3. Creating new algorithms for analyzing gene function and phenotype data in plants
...and other activities of your own design.
In general, the lab is open to creativity and best nurtures individuals who are self-motivated. Individuals with a background outside of plant genomics are especially encouraged to apply – much of the software that enables predictive phenomics in vertebrates and other systems translates well for our interests! The time is right to bring those tools to bear on plant biology. In addition, developing collaborations in high-throughput phenotyping makes individuals with image processing capabilities as well as those who have a background in computing for on environmental datasets especially attractive.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The Lawrence lab is a computational biology lab equipped with high-end cluster computers and bioinformatics support.
Ames, Iowa is constantly ranked as one of the best places to live in the US, and has received numerous awards for being a progressive, innovative and exciting community with high affordability and high quality of life.
Candidates should send a C.V. and statement of interest as one PDF document, and have three letters of reference sent independently by their authors to Dr. Carolyn J. Lawrence-Dill at triffid@iastate.edu. Screening of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Expected start date: on or after July 2015.
All offers of employment, oral and written, are contingent upon the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by federal and state law, ISU policies/procedures, and may include the completion of a background check. Iowa State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, marital status, disability, or protected veteran status, and will not be discriminated against. Inquiries can be directed to the Director of Equal Opportunity, 3350 Beardshear Hall, (515) 294-7612.  A PhD in bioinformatics or a related field. A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Strong programming skills; strong oral and written communication skills in English.
