Dr. Mark Adams’ lab at JAX-GM is seeking a postdoctoral associate with experience in bacterial genomics to conduct research on the structure, strain-level variation, and resilience of microbial communities as part of the human and mouse microbiomes. The postdoc will use computational and experimental approaches to characterize genome variation and develop new approaches to genomic analysis of mixed microbial communities. - Develop and apply new analytical approaches for characterizing the genetic architecture of microbial communities.
- Contribute to collaborative projects involving analysis of the human and mouse microbiome, with particular emphasis on improving genome analysis methods leading to new insights into functional and taxonomic characteristics of microbial profiles.
- Collect, analyze and interpret genome and transcriptome data from Acinetobacter baumannii and other bacterial pathogens to determine the roles of mobile elements in genome variation related to antibiotic resistance.
- Ph.D. degree in the life sciences or computational biology.
- Research experience with bacterial genome assembly, annotation, and analysis.
- Proficiency with the UNIX computing environment and experience with large-scale data analysis using software pipelines in a HPC environment.
- Experience with SQL databases, Perl, Python, and/or R is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and fully fluent in both spoken and written English.
