Job Description:
A research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) in the Office of Scientific Coordination. NCTR is seeking a highly qualified scientist to assist with ongoing research on FDALabel database (https://www.fda.gov/scienceresearch/bioinformaticstools/ucm289739.htm). The successful candidate will participate in multi-disciplinary research efforts in a nationally recognized research program in support of FDA’s mission. Primary responsibilities for this position will be to conduct information retrieval from FDA approved drug labeling and to generate hypothesizes to support drug safety research and facilitate regulatory decision making. This position requires a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent, in the fields of bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, or similar, with an emphasis on text mining and data mining. Preference will be given to individuals that demonstrate a record of relevant accomplishments. Evidence of effective organizational and decision-making capabilities and interpersonal and communication skills are required. The stipend will be approximately $59,000 annually for a Ph.D. candidate and approximate $48, 000 annually for a M.S. candidate. The position is a 12-month appointment with the possibility for extension based upon recommendation and availability of funds. The candidate must have resided in the U.S. for at least three years within the past 5 years. The selected candidate for this position will be appointed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE); this is not a federal government appointment. - Data analysis, management, retrieving and mining with special emphasis on text mining/NLP.
- Data pattern recognition, machine learning, data visualizations, and graphic representation.
- Proficient with Python, R, MATLAB, C/C++, JavaScript, Java, and SQL in Linux/Unix environment.
- Strong skills in the application of statistical methods for analysis.
- Excellent time management as well as oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of DrugBank, DailyMed, Drugs@FDA, SRS (Substance Registration System), FAERS (FDA Adverse Events Reporting System) and other drug databases is a plus.
- The candidate must have resided in the US for at least three years within the past 5 years
