Postdoctoral positions are available in the Laboratory of Statistical Artificial Intelligence and Integrative Genomics (SAILING) within the School of Computer Science and Lane Center of Computational Biology, Carnegie Mellon University, headed by Professor Eric Xing. For detailed activities within the SAILING Lab, please refer to http://www.sailing.cs.cmu.eduWe are seeking outstanding postdoctoral candidates from machine learning, high-dimensional statistics, Bayesian statistics, statistical genetics, systems biology, and computational biology, to work on several projects in these areas, including (but not restricted to): 1) Developing software for personalized and precision medicine. 2) Developing new models and algorithms in the field of population genetics, genome-wide association studies, time series clinical data modeling and prediction, and network inference. 3) Developing new systems and algorithms for large-scale genetic or biomedical data analysis. We encourage incoming postdocs to also explore other projects in SAILING lab, and initiate new projects. The CMU SAILING Lab offers a highly energetic and inspiring interdisciplinary environment for working on a wide range of challenging theoretical and application problems in statistical learning and computational biology. We work closely with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), clinical and biological laboratories in the School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, and other schools to address various problems of practical medical and biological interests. The successful candidates will have an opportunity to interact with world class researchers in all the areas mentioned above and beyond, and she/he will find Pittsburgh a pleasant place with rich cultural and recreational resources yet easy and quiet living environment. The ideal candidates should have a strong track record of research in machine learning, optimization, statistical genetics, and computational systems biology, evidenced by high quality publications; be able to communicate and work with collaborating student/postdocs and external PIs; and be able to carry out research and develop ideas independently. Good programming skill and solid statistics/math background are highly desirable.
