Job Description:
Berkeley Lab’s Computational Science (CLS) Department in the Computational Research Division has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow. The CLS Department performs innovative research that enhances high performance computational science application codes used in scientific discovery across a broad range of scientific disciplines.

What You Will Do:

  • Research, development, and coding of new and existing algorithms, tools and technologies to meet data ­intensive, data­ driven science challenges.
  • Evaluation of existing and new techniques and results.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team environment, including backgrounds in biology, ecology, earth sciences, statistics, physics, nuclear science, cosmology, energy technologies, and computer science.
  • Author peer-­reviewed journal articles and contribute to grant proposals.
What is Required:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Established record of peer reviewed publications.
  • Proven experience writing and/or adapting software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Keen interest in solving science challenges.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R, C/C++, Fortran) and parallel languages and execution environments (e.g., MPI, OpenMP, OpenCL, CUDA).
  • Experience with scientific data sets, formats, or types.
  • Experience as part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative team that includes computer/computational scientists and domain scientists.

Notes:

This is a full time 1 Year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
