Job Description:
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Petsalaki research group at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). You will use high throughput biological datasets, data integration and statistical modelling to study the global cell signaling responses in healthy and disease conditions.

We use novel predictive and conditional whole-cell signalling models to gain insights into basic cell functions and disease mechanisms. The goal of this research is to aid the design of therapeutic approaches and biomarker discovery for patients with specific proteome, expression or genome profiles. EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and it is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. EMBL-EBI provides freely available data from life science experiments, performs basic research in computational biology and offers an extensive user training programme, supporting researchers in academic and industry. We have close ties with both the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

Qualifications and Experience:

You will be a highly motivated, goal-oriented person who performs well working both independently and in collaborative interdisciplinary projects. You should have a deep interest in studying complex biological processes using large-scale biological datasets and be willing to learn new methods and technologies, as required, to successfully complete a project.

To work well with us you should be able to handle your projects independently, and communicate well with the rest of the team. You will also need to be reliable, and manage your time well. Moreover you should be open to sharing your data, ideas and analysis pipelines and tools with other members of the lab and the community.

You should have a PhD in biology, bioinformatics, physics, computer science, engineering or a related field. The following skills and experience are required:

-Programming skills: Extensive experience in programming (Python, Perl and/or R at minimum).

-Familiarity with widely used bioinformatics tools and biological databases.

-Knowledge in basic statistics.

-Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

It would be very advantageous if you also have experience in any of the following:

-Mathematical modelling of cell processes.

-Development of user-friendly interfaces, web pages and/or bioinformatics tools.

-Analysis and handling of proteomics and phospho-proteomics datasets.

-Data-driven network inference from high throughput datasets including gene expression or proteomics datasets.
