Job Description:
A three year position as postdoctoral fellow is available at the Department of Medical Genetics and Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT), Oslo University Hospital. NORMENT was granted Centre of Excellence status from the Research Council of Norway. The Centre coordinates a large translational multisite research program. Through our extensive infrastructure for clinical evaluations, neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and biobank, we are assembling a comprehensive database including genetic and brain imaging data from a large number of healthy controls and patients suffering from psychotic disorders including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.
The overall aim of the current project “Identifying the polygenic basis of the human brain and psychiatric disorders” (Research Council of Norway) is to identify common and rare genetic factors associated to altered brain development, and explore their role in neurodevelopmental disorders. The objectives are to generate genetic atlases of the human cortex based on MRI and SNP data and to discover SNPs associated with individual genetic divisions of the cortical cluster maps. Further, we want to combine MRI and genetics information for patient stratification and risk prediction.
Job description
•The candidate is expected to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team under supervision of senior researchers, and is also expected to take an active part in the daily activities at the Department, depending on interests and qualifications. The research will be carried out as an integrated part of both the Molecular genetics as well as Multimodal Imaging and Bioinformatics groups, and the post doc is expected to collaborate closely with an extended inter-disciplinary team of researchers and clinicians at the Centre. The fellow may also be involved in our extensive international collaborations, particularly with University of San Diego, CA, USA. The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualifications
•The ideal candidate is curious, ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a research career
•The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology-genetics, computational neuroscience, bioinformatics, or similar, and have a strong and documented interest in neurogenetics and/or quantitative analysis
•Experience with imaging genetics and methods for integrating multimodal imaging measures is an advantage
•Training will be provided, but documented experience with GWAS analysis and exome chipping, MatLab, R, and bioinformatics is desirable
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English or a Scandinavian language is a prerequisite
Personal qualities
•High working capacity
•Excellent collaboration skills as well as ability to work independently
•Positive attitude and goal oriented
•Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
We offer
•A position in a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment where you are encouraged to develop your skills and share your knowledge with your colleagues
•A position in an international research network with the opportunities for overseas collaboration and research visits
•Pension and national health insurance is included in addition to several attractive welfare arrangements
