Job Description:
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Zhandong Liu, PhD, and Joshua Shulman, MD, PhD, based in the Neurological Research Institute (NRI) at Baylor and Texas Children’s Hospital. The successful candidate will develop and apply bioinformatic and biostatistical algorithms to high-throughput genomic data (e.g. RNA-sequencing, proteomics, and both genetic/epigenetic variation) in order to pinpoint molecular systems responsible for Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. A key goal will be to integrate available multi-dimensional data across species, including from both human subjects and experimental animal models (e.g. flies, mice, etc), and develop a web-based resource to advance future investigation of Alzheimer’s disease. The successful candidate will work with research teams across multiple disciplines, including systems/computational biology, neurology, genomics, and neuroscience.

This position is funded in part by the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP), a bold new venture among the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 10 biopharmaceutical companies, and several nonprofit organizations, with an overall project goal to shorten the time between the discovery of potential drug targets and the development of new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease treatment and prevention, by integrating the analyses of large-scale molecular data from human brain samples with network modeling approaches and experimental validation.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have (1) an MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field, (2) strong mathematical/scientific programming skills, and (3) experience with bioinformatics algorithms and large-scale data analysis.
