Job Description:
Postdoctoral fellow (Research Associate) for Clinical and Next Generation Sequencing data analysisLCSB, University of LuxembourgBioinformatics Core FacilityLuxembourg-Belval The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg is seeking an enthusiastic team member for the following position:

Postdoctoral fellow (Research Associate) for Clinical and Next Generation Sequencing data analysis (m/f)

Initial contract duration: 3 years, 40h/week and extension possible.
Employee status (start date: as soon as possible)

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Luxembourg. LCSB develops and applies systems-level approaches to gain insight into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human diseases. Experimental and computational approaches are combined to analyse the complexity of biological systems underlying disease pathogenesis. The LCSB is pioneering the way for a predictive, preventive and personalised medicine. Neurodegenerative diseases, especially Parkinson’s disease are major targets within LCSB’s research activities.

We are looking for an experienced postdoc to develop a platform to host and analyze a comprehensive repository of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) genetic variants in order to accelerate the identification of the yet missing heritability in PD genetics. The platform will be closely linked to curated databases of PD-related pathways, networks, and models, allowing functional annotation of identified variants. This resource will be established in close collaboration with the International Consortium for PD Genetics (ICPDG), and will become a part of Data and Computing platform of recently founded ‘National Center for Excellence in Research (NCER)’ project on Diagnosis and Stratification of PD.

Your Role

Building up of whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing data warehouse and analysis platform
Setting up of an electronic data capture system to collect the clinical data and harmonize the retrospective clinical data from different partners of the ICPDG.
Development of PD variant database and linking to corresponding clinical data and related PD pathways, networks and models.

Your Profile

A PhD in computer science, computational biology or bioinformatics, with an interest in NGS data analysis and translational medicine.
Strong computer programming (Java, Perl/Python/R, HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript) skills and knowledge of RDMBS (MySQL or PostgreSQL) are a requirement.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate clearly the scientific and technical needs and to work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other internal/external partners.
Prior experience dealing with clinical and omics data integration as well as NoSQL database technologies is considered an advantage but NOT mandatory.

We offer

A fully funded position with a very competitive salary.
Participate in the building of state-of-the-art translational medicine platform.
An opportunity to join the fast-growing Bioinformatics Core Facility group headed by Dr. Reinhard Schneider in the newly created LCSB.
An exciting international environment.
The university is an equal opportunity employer.
