The Department of Biomedical Informatics has a long and outstanding history of training independent researchers in biomedical informatics. The University of Pittsburgh is an active research center of biomedical research; the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University jointly create an outstanding academic environment for computational biology and translational bioinformatics.   Candidates should have a PhD degree in the following areas: computational biology, mathematics, bioinformatics, statistics or biostatistics, and computer sciences. Candidates with strong background in statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and computational biology are strongly encouraged to apply.
