Job Description:

A 3-year postdoctoral fellowship in computational biology is available at the lab of Dr. Nir Yosef at the Department of Computer Science and the Center for Computational Biology at UC Berkeley. The successful candidate will lead a large, industry-funded project that involves close collaboration with experimental labs at UC Berkeley. The overall goal of the project is to study the mechanisms of action and downstream effects of a number of chemical substances of interest, using human hepatocytes as a model. The work will include developing and applying computational methods for experimental design and model inference, based on transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics assays that will be conducted as a part of the project. The postdoctoral fellow will have ample opportunity to meet with leading researchers at the Center for Computational Biology and Computer Science Division, as well as gain valuable, hands-on experience working jointly with wet labs on experimental design and analysis.

To get an idea of the kind of projects we are working on, here is a sample from some of our recent publications:

1. Dynamic regulatory network controlling TH17 cell differentiation/ N. Yosef* et al. Nature 2013 Apr 25;496(7446):461-8

2. Induction of pathogenic TH17 cells by inducible salt-sensing kinase SGK1/ C. Wu*, N.Yosef*, et al. Nature 2013 Apr 25;496(7446):513-7

3. A high throughput in vivo protein-DNA mapping approach reveals principles of dynamic gene regulation in mammals/ M. Garber*, N. Yosef*, et al. Molecular Cell. 47(5);810-22, 2012.

4. Impulse control: Temporal dynamics in gene transcription/ N. Yosef, A. Regev. Cell. 144(6):886-96, 2011.

5. Toward Accurate Reconstruction of Functional Protein Networks / N.Yosef, et al. Molecular Systems Biology, 2009;5;248.

Candidates with a PhD in computer science, computational biology or a related quantitative discipline and no more than three years of prior postdoctoral training will be considered. Excellent programming and genome data analysis skills are necessary. Hands-on knowledge of statistical tools, genome databases, and comparative genomics approaches is also required.
