Job Description:
A postdoc position for a fixed term of three years for high-dimensional single cell analysis of natural killer cell repertoires at K.G. Jebsen Center for Cancer Immunotherapy. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD with a strong background in bioinformatics/computational biology. The project concerns the mechanisms underlying the functional diversification of human natural killer cells. Studies of immunological diversity in populations are combined with the integration and analysis of high-dimensional single-cell data generated by RNASeq, flow cytometry and CyTOF. The candidate will work at the interface of immunology, cancer and bioinformatics. Immune informatics is a nascent field with many challenging computational tasks ahead. The candidate, together with colleagues, will particularly focus on computational approaches toward clinically relevant immune profiling of immune-cell repertoires in patients. Depending on qualifications of the applicant, the position may offer the possibility to develop an independent line of research within the overall scope of the groups research program. The Institute for Cancer Research and the Institute of Clinical Medicine The Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital, and Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo, (http://ous-research.no/institute/) hosts core facilities for multiparameter flow cytometery, CyTOF, next generation sequencing, imaging and bioinformatics. The Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of OUHRadiumhospitalet, is one of the largest Cancer Centers in Europe with its own Phase I/II clinical trial unit and one of the leading European academic facilities for good manufacturing practices (GMP) production of cells for immunotherapy. These units integrate clinical departments with the Dept. of Immunology, giving OUH a competitive edge in bringing “in-house” discoveries to early clinical trials. Building on a long tradition of investigator-initiated trials, the group is currently developing a new strategy for selective and controlled expansion of educated NK cells for cancer therapy. K.G. Jebsen Center for Cancer Immunotherapy Malmberg is the co-director of the K.G. Jebsen Center for Cancer Immunotherapy (JCIT) (http://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/research/centres/kgj-cancer-immunotherapy/), which is a new virtual research center awarded funding by the Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation and the University of Oslo. The center comprises the research groups of 6 principal investigators, of which 5 are located within the UiO/Oslo University Hospital Medical Campus, and one partner is located at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. The research environment is highly dynamic with extensive interaction between the groups. Eligibility and Qualifications The candidate must have a PhD in bioinformatics or computational biology equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Medicine/Life sciences. Successful applicants must have obtained their degree prior to taking on the position. Candidates should have a strong, documented background in bioinformatics/computational biology. Competence within a relevant high level programming language is necessary. Previous experience in immunological research is preferable.
