Job Description:
A postdoc position is available for three years within bioinformatics. The position is part of the BIGMED project, which aims to delineate next-generation precision medicine hospital IT. The project is a collaboration between major public and private actors in the Norwegian health sector, and aims to leverage big data, advanced integrative genomics solutions, and efficient supporting infrastructure. The BIGMED innovation project (bigmed.no) is funded by the Research Council of Norway. The postdoc position will focus on precision oncology, where deliverables will include genomic pipeline standardization and benchmarking, DNA variant annotation for decision support in clinical systems and drug prediction algorithms for treatment prioritization. Exciting novel strategies will be developed to inform on cancer treatment and monitoring, in tight collaboration with Norway’s strongest cancer research environment. The position is of transdisciplinary nature, requiring tight interactive development between clinicians, hospital IT, data mining and high performance computing infrastructure. The position will be part of a bioinformatics research environment at the Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital. This environment also has strong affiliations to the Biomedical Informatics group at the University of Oslo https://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/english/research/groups/bmi/, with the Elixir national project (http://www.elixir-norway.org/). The project is also aligned with another Research Council-funded innovation project, Big Insight for the knowledge economy (https://www.biginsight.no), and the Oslo Center of Biostatistics and Epidemiolgy (OCBE, https://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/research/centres/ocbe/). Qualifications: • The successful candidate is required to have a doctoral degree within bioinformatics or informatics, and to have a strong interest in biomedicine • Programming will be an integral part of the job. Familiarity with the Unix operating system is necessary • Experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python) and/or tools and languages for data visualization and statistical computing (e.g. R) will be required, and ideally also the Docker technology (https://www.docker.com/) • A preference will be given to applicants who have previous research activities in human biomedical systems. We foresee that the successful applicant will contribute to active research in the area, and will be able to maintain a profile as an active bioinformatics researcher
