Job Description:
Postdoctoral positions in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics are available in the laboratory of Dr. Lionel Ivashkiv and the David Z. Rosensweig Genomics Research Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). Postdoctoral Fellows will be co-mentored by Dr. Ivashkiv and computational biologists Drs. Eugenia Giannopoulou and Olivier Elemento. The Genomics Center’s focus is on using state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing (NGS) experimental approaches, including transcriptomics and epigenomics, to identify pathogenic mechanisms and new treatments for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and other autoimmune, inflammatory and musculoskeletal diseases. A Ph.D. degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, molecular biology or related field is required. Applicants with strong experience in the analysis of NGS data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) and microarrays, and background in immunology/autoimmunity/inflammation are particularly encouraged to apply. A successful candidate for this position should be: • Familiar with best practices and the current literature in the field, and fluent with commonly used tools (e.g., the Tuxedo suite, samtools, STAR) and databases (e.g., RefSeq, UCSC, Ensembl). • Experienced in programming and using R. • Capable of designing and carrying out bioinformatics analyses of NGS datasets. • Proficient in working in a Linux computing environment, and automating tasks using scripting languages such as bash, perl, python or ruby. As a member of the David Z. Rosensweig Genomics Research Center the candidate would collaborate withHSS and WCM faculty postdocs, and students with expertise and interests in genomics, and would actively participate in developing new data analysis tools and methods that will meet the scientific goals of the Research Center. Teaching opportunities are also offered through the organization of educational events for faculty and lab members in contemporary bioinformatics methods and best practices. The Hospital for Special Surgery is affiliated with and adjacent to Weill Cornell Medicine and embedded in a vibrant research environment encompassing Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University. A competitive benefit package will be offered including health and dental insurance. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae and a brief description of research experience to Dr. Eugenia Giannopoulou (giannopouloue@hss.edu). (Hospital for Special Surgery, 535 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021).
