Job Description:
Four postdoctoral positions are available at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, within a newly formed consortium funded by the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The overall aim of the project is to identify key regulatory long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in tumor development and cellular differentiation. Candidate molecules will be identified and characterized using a range of experimental and computational techniques, ranging from large-scale genomics to focused biochemical studies. We therefore aim to recruit several postdocs with complementary scientific skills. The consortium consists of six research group at the Institute of Biomedicine at Sahlgrenska Academy.
We seek the following profiles:
[Postdoctoral positions in cancer biology]
Two postdoc positions are available in the laboratory of Chandrasekhar Kanduri to highly motivated candidates with a strong background in cell & molecular biology, and cancer biology. Using genome scale functional long noncoding RNA screens we have identified several regulatory long noncoding RNAs. Projects in the lab involve; 1) Characterization of the mechanisms that target long noncoding RNAs to chromatin (Pandey et al., Mol Cell 2008; Mondal et al.; Genome Res 2012) 2) Exploring the functional role of long noncoding RNAs in cell differentiation programs and 3) Uncovering long noncoding RNA functions in tumor development and progression using selected cancer model systems (Gaurav et al., Cancer Cell, 2014 Nov 10;26(5):722-737). The selected candidates will work with primary tumors, tumor cell lines and mouse xenografts.
[Postdoctoral position for studies of lncRNA interactions with protein complexes]
We are looking for a self-motivated scientist with experience in protein biochemistry and molecular biology, to work in the laboratories of Claes Gustafsson and Maria Falkenberg. In the project, we will develop new techniques to characterize a number of recently identified lncRNA and their interactions with regulatory protein complexes. The ideal candidate will have experience in biochemistry and isolation of protein complexes from mammalian cells. The work involves collaboration within and outside the group, therefore good teamwork skills are important. The project requires an enthusiastic and creative person with a passion and curiosity for science.
[Computational biologist]
One motivated postdoctoral researcher with a background in bioinformatics and genomics, to join the laboratory of Erik Larsson Lekholm. The successful applicant will use public and in-house genomics datasets to study lncRNA expression patterns and molecular interactions, in close collaboration with wet-lab biologists in the consortium. Programming skills and linux/unix experience is a requirement, and knowledge of Matlab or R is desirable. Experience from relevant biological fields is desirable but not necessary. Previous experience with next-generation sequencing is recommended for this position. Recent relevant publications include: Fredriksson et al, Nature Genetics 2014. Tang K-W et al, Nature Communications 2013; Akrami et al., PLoS One 2013; Jeggari A et al, Bioinformatics 2012; Hoell J, Larsson E et al, Nature Struct. Mol. Biol. 2011.
All positions require excellent communicative skills, including fluency in oral and written English. Your application should contain a short cover letter (0.5-1 page), two references with contact information, CV, and bibliography.
