Job Description:
The Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Max-Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology have recently established the LOEWE-Center for Synthetic Microbiology, SYNMIKRO. Supported by the state of Hesse, within its excellence program LOEWE, the more than 30 research groups of the interdisciplinary SYNMIKRO-Center focus on basic aspects of synthetic biology on all levels of microbial function. In a collaborative project of the LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology at the Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Department of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen we are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant / Bioinformatician (Bioinformatics | Informatics | Data Management)
This project is part of the transnational ERASynBio research initiative – Building Synthetic Biology capacity through innovative transnational projects.
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E13, 100 %). The positions start as soon as possible. They are limited to 3 years and will offer the possibility of further scientific qualification in the frame of the assigned duties.
The transnational research project by seven partners from Germany, Austria, UK and the US focuses on development of a synthetic biology design framework based on alternative sigma factors to implement highly orthogonal regulatory switches and circuits in bacteria.
Scientific services belong to the duties in research and teaching.
Desired skills and experience
Applicants should have a solid background in data management as well as high-throughput analysis of omics data in an UNIX/Linux environment, statistical analyses in R/BioConductor and advanced programming skills, preferably in Java and one of the following scripting languages: Python, Perl, R/BioC, C/C#. The successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Informatics, or related fields. Fluency in English is a prerequisite. Tasks will include development of new software solutions for processing and visualization of RNAseq data and associated metadata. Further tasks will be the improvement of normalization methods for RNAseq data as well as the integrated management of RNAseq data, metadata and analysis data. Apart from the development of new software tools, the duties include support of project-specific data analysis.
