Job Description:
Hiring Unit:
Biological & Agricultural Engineering Department

Major/Essential Duties of Job
Assist in remote-sensing image collection with UAV's operated by project staff. Develop protocols for consistent image-analysis products for repetitive scientific needs (e.g., geographic registration, spectral correction, image mosaicking, production of NDVI images). Develop innovative image-analysis techniques to provide phenotype measurements to collaborating scientists. Participate in design and development of new autonomous sensing systems including work in mechatronics and optoelectronics. Participate in research and development of analytical techniques for "big data" produced in the research program.
Assist faculty in experimental design, field supervision, and fieldwork during data collection. Supervise assigned graduate and undergraduate students. Procure necessary parts, equipment, materials, and supplies. Use presentation graphics and multimedia to develop presentations and documents in support of the lead principal investigator in BAEN.
Write research reports and make oral presentations.

Required Education:
PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering or closely related field.

Preferred Education::
PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in laboratory research and agricultural field-research operations. Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, farm and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Extensive knowledge of computers and GIS and image-analysis software packages. Proficiency in remote and proximal sensing for agricultural applications. Ability to write well-structured computer programs. Ability to design, build, and test electronic circuits.
