Job Description:
The BIO5 Institute and Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine are seeking highly motivated candidates for the full-time position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I in the Systems Genomics Laboratory of Dr. Casey Romanoski.

Dr. Romanoski’s NIH-funded research team incorporates experimental and computational approaches on the genome-wide scale to identify molecular mechanisms that predispose individuals to develop complex diseases like heart disease. Current studies focus on the non-coding genetic basis of variable transcriptional responses of endothelial cells (that line blood vessels) to pro-inflammatory environments (that occur in heart disease). The laboratory generates, analyzes, and integrates massively parallel high-throughput sequencing data to measure genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic signatures from human cells that reflect diverse genetic and environmental origins. Genome editing techniques (CRISPR/Cas9) are used to test molecular hypotheses in cell culture.

The successful Postdoctoral candidate will possess a genetic/cell/molecular/computational skill set appropriate to accomplish the lab’s goals. In addition, they will possess the drive required to research complex disease and will be able to work productively with others and alone. The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the BIO5 Institute are dedicated to training the next generation of scientists, and the Postdoctoral candidate will benefit from the diverse and interdisciplinary environment at the University of Arizona.

Duties & Responsibilities:

-Lead a research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.

-Innovate new areas of experimental and computational inquiry.

-Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.

-Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.

-Apply for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the PI.

-There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
