The Health Data Sciences Institute (HDSI) within the
Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory(ORNL) has multiple openings for postdoctoral
research associates in the field biomedical data analytics. The HDSI
mission is to deliver methodological and applied scientific innovations
related to the use of big health data for individual and public benefit.
Our main research focus is the development and practical application of
advanced data integration, analysis methods, and informatics tools to
enable effective use of multi-modality biomedical data sets for
individual and public benefit. More information on the HDSI may be found

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
A successful candidate will collaborate with HDSI/CSED scientists in a
wide variety of data analytics and architecture research. They will be
expected to develop novel basic and applied data analytics methods,
tools, and architectures that can be used to analyzing very large
volumes of structured and unstructured biomedical data. These methods
will require a very strong background in data mining, machine learning,
statistical analysis, and computer science and hands-on experience in
biomedical applications. The ideal candidate is a highly innovative,
self-directed individual with the ability to push the leading edge in
algorithmic development and build scalable, efficient, and generalizable
solutions for meaningful information extraction from various data
sources. Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and
conference proceedings will be expected. Applicants should demonstrate
the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a
multidisciplinary team. Successful applicants will join a vibrant
collaborative research environment which will provide the opportunity to
perform cutting-edge research in high-performance computing, using
ORNL's Leadership Class Supercomputer. Qualifications

Qualifications Required:
Minimum Qualifications Required: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field and an
outstanding publication track record is required. Relevant training in
any of the following; Bioinformatics, Computational Genomics, Clinical
Informatics, Population Health Informatics Candidates must have
demonstrated good academic standing, and the ability to conduct
independent and significant research. Position requires the ability to
communicate effectively (both verbal and written). Demonstrated
programming ability, and knowledge of Java, Python, C/C++ or other
commonly used language. Experience with any data integration
technologies Experience with core semantic technologies (RDF, OWL,
SPARQL) Flexibility with regard to the research assignments is required.
Ability to collaborate with scientists, engineers, and sponsors is also
required. Capable of producing significant research results,
publications, and funding proposals.

Additional Information: Applicants cannot have received their PhD more than five years prior to the date
of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting
their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with
the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are
subject to performance and availability of funding.
