We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the immune innate response regulation by small non-coding RNAs in Drosophila melanogaster.

We wish to explore the role of MicroRNAs (miRNAs) in the Drosophila immune response by performing microarrays studies. The researcher will perform classical techniques of genetics, molecular biology and RNA microarrays to identify novel miRNAs involved in the innate immunity response regulation.

Applicants should have obtained a PhD within the past 5 years and have a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry and/or bioinformatics and must have expertise in insect immunology /genetics and microbiology. Experience involving experimental validation of miRNAs targets, miRNA profiling, and miRNAs reporter assays would be highly desirable. Experience handling different pathogens such as yeast, gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria would also be advantageous.

This full-time post is available immediately and will be based in the group of Dr Petros Ligoxygakis in the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

The position will be fixed-term for up to 24 months in the first instance and is funded by the Department.
