Job Description:
The incumbent is primarily responsible for executing the development a "decision support tool" for farmers. This decision support tool is an integrated decision aid based upon years of cover crop research in multiple US regions and will require advanced understanding of farm inputs. The incumbent is responsible for working with the regional cover crop councils to compile existing cover crop data for meta-analysis, development of decision support tools, and coordination with web-app developers. The focus will be on cover crop seeding rate, economic, and nutrient and water management decision support tools. Incumbent working in a team setting will conduct assigned research, and prepare scientific reports and manuscripts. This research is a component of ARS National Program. The end result of the incumbent's work will be a web-based app that integrates cover crop knowledge from around the US and allows farmers to select their potential cover crop based on information they can provide. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing new research questions about cover crops based on farmer input after using the decision support tool.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.

* PhD in Biological Sciences, Computer Sciences, or a related field.

* Professional knowledge of computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, agronomy, or related field.

* Strong analytical skills, experience conducting meta-analysis, working with large data sets, and writing manuscripts.

* Must be comfortable working in diverse teams, have strong communication skills and organization.
