Job Description:
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Perlmutter and Dr. David Rudnick at Washington University School of Medicine.

The laboratory works together on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of liver disease in α1-antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic disease characterized by intracellular accumulation of a misfolded secretory protein. Most of the work currently focuses on elucidation of the mechanisms by which the misfolded α1-antitrypsin variant is degraded by cellular pathways, including autophagy and the proteasome. The lab also works on proteostasis signaling mechanisms by which cells adapt to the accumulation of misfolded proteins and we are currently working on the roles of insulin and NFκB signaling pathways specifically. Another area of research is drugs which reduce the cellular load of misfolded proteins by stimulating autophagy or other proteostasis targets and benefits from work in the laboratories of our collaborators using a C. elegans model and high-throughput screening platforms. The investigators filling this position will carry out experimental work using cellular biochemistry and protein chemistry techniques in existing animal and cell model systems and develop new model systems using genomic engineering.

Interested candidates with a PhD, MD or MD- PhD and a strong background in molecular biology, tissue culture, protein chemistry and bioinformatics, please email a single PDF file that includes a cover letter, CV and the names of 2 referees to Dr. David Rudnick MD-PhD, Assistant Professor, Washington University in St Louis at:
